"Make $300 a month, maybe. It will depend on how many people you can get to sign up for this program. We don't really have a real product. It's just a pyramid scheme. Yeah, we give away some old ebooks and an auto responder to make it look legit but it's really just another program designed to do one thing and one thing only, and that is to get people to sign up under you because that is the only way you get paid. Don't ask us how to promote this thing because we don't have a clue. You might want to try traffic exchanges and safelists. Something is bound to work. Or, you can just pay us extra money each month and we'll give you leads."
Not very likely is it? Let's be honest. If we saw an ad like this what chance do you think there would be of any of us signing up with the program?
The sad truth is, honesty in advertising is pretty much dead. I'm not suggesting that people lie, though some do, but they just don't tell you everything you need to know. In many cases you don't REALLY find out the whole story about a particular business opportunity until AFTER you have joined. By then it is too late.
But imagine is EVERYONE were FORCED to do what is called full disclosure? In other words, they had to tell EVERYTHING about their program on the web site, otherwise, if it were discovered that they left out important details they would immediately be shut down by the FTC. We wouldn't have to worry about being taken in by any scams or, more commonly, programs that just don't tell the whole story. These are, unfortunately, the main offenders.
I'm not going to mention any names in particular, but you know the programs I'm talking about. The ones that say, "Make $30,000 in 30 days with our unique system." They don't tell you anything about the system at the site except to say that it is revolutionary and once you see it you'll agree that it is the most amazing lead generation system ever.
Then you join and find out it is something you've been doing for months.
There are those who will argue that if they were to reveal all at the web site, competitors would steal their secrets. I guess you can't argue with that, especially if somebody truly does have something revolutionary. But there has to be a middle ground. Certainly many of these sites can give more info than they do. Some don't even give you a way to contact them and ask questions. Are they trying to hide something?
This article is not meant to be presented as factual. It is simply meant to be presented in a way to make you all think about this issue. As businessmen, yes, we want to protect our secrets. But as consumers we're sure like to know before we joined this "great" program that it was going to cost me an extra $50 a month if we REALLY wanted to do this correctly. That's the kind of stuff that drives me crazy.
How about you?
I'd like to know what you think.
See you next time.
Sincerely,
Lance Drossman
