No matter what advertising you use, be it FFA hosting or Google AdWords (the rest is pretty much worthless) there are still other things you can do to get people to your web page.
This next thing will only apply to you if you have your own site. If you're promoting an affiliate product then you don't have any control over the content that goes on the page. But with your own site and product you do.
One thing that is very effective over the long haul for any web site promotion is the use of articles as content. Just take a look at this site. It's stuffed with articles. People need information to make informed decisions. They starve for this information. If you think I am kidding just go to Overture.com and see how many searches there are each month for just about anything. I myself am always looking things up on the Internet. If you have enough content, people will eventually find it because the search engines will eventually make them aware of this content. Yes, it takes time. But it's time well spent.
So, where do you get this content from? Well, if you're a decent writer you can write the articles yourself. Certainly if you're selling something that you have knowledge of you should be able to write about it. It doesn't have to be fancy. Just understandable and useful.
Can't write to save your life? No problem. There are plenty of places online where you can purchase articles. Some will even let you use them for free simply for a link back to their site. In a way this helps you both as in the long run you'll both get traffic.
Another thing that is very good to ad to your site is a links page. If you can manage to do a link exchange with some high traffic sites it may very well be one of the best things you can do. It's going to have to be in the best interests for both of you so make them an offer that they can't refuse. Maybe offer to pay them 70% commission for each one of your products that they sell. They'd be a fool to pass something like that up.
