Life is hard. Anybody who says otherwise hasn't lived yet. We work difficult jobs, usually from 9 to 5, sometimes longer, have children to take care of, as we get older we then have to care for our parents, we have to deal with the problems of the outside world when it invades our lives, and I can go on and on. At the end of the day, we take a look in the mirror and sometimes we realize that we've probably spent more time frowning that day than we did smiling. And then we start to feel really bad. But suddenly we think to ourselves, the new ice cream parlor just opened up down the street and they've got these really wild flavors of ice cream. You decide that you deserve to have some fun, so you head on down and get yourself a double scoop of peanut butter fudge candy ripple. Suddenly there is a smile on our face.
Like it or not, we make many purchases simply because we want to experience some form of pleasure. Take a look at all the sites on the Internet that feature some form of entertainment item. Look at all the sites that feature free games to play. What about the sites that sell puzzles? How about the collectible card game sites? What about the sites that allow you to download music? We can go on with this list until doomsday, but you get the idea. The song that Cyndi Lauper sang, "Girl's Just Wanna Have Fun" really applies to every human being on the planet. We all want to have fun because heaven knows we spend way too much time not having fun. So how can we take advantage of this when selling our product on the Internet?
Simple. Let people know just how much fun they're going to have if they buy it. Think you can't do that with an acne cure? Think again. How's this for a sample ad copy?
"After trying our acne cure for just 3 days you will see your acne VANISH. What does this mean to YOU? For starters, that cute boy or girl who you've been meaning to get to know won't be somebody you're going to have to hide from, not with YOUR clear skin."
And on and on. You get the picture. What is more fun to a teenager than meeting a nice boy or girl? My friend, for a teenager, that is the definition of fun. And it's not easy to have when your skin isn't clear. Think that kid isn't going to buy your acne cure? Sure they will, and not because it is going to cure their acne but because it means more dates, or more fun.
If you sit down with your product and think about what it does for somebody, there's no reason why you can't think of some way that the benefits will somehow translate into more fun.
Sincerely,
Lance Drossman
